investing in pepco. good for you. it was a cool start to the day. things are going to change, just me on that one. in the meantime, a look at our fox 5 accu-weather radar and you can see we've got line rain moving across the area. that is not going to be sticking around too long but a little bit into the course of the morning hours before it is all said and done. a look at those temperatures. here is the highs yesterday. 55 at national. 51 at dulles. these temperatures, guess what, up to 15, 16 degrees cooler than they should be. right now, it is currently at national airport 48. dulles, 46. baltimore, 47 degrees and today, we do have once again frost and freeze warnings to talk about. a freeze watch for the portion of the potomac high lands to the far west and a freeze warning as well. this ends at 9:00 a.m. today, your high, 58 degrees. the drizzle and the light rain won't stick around for too long. we'll be left with mostly cloudy skies by this afternoon. just can't give you a whole lot

overnight construction was set occupy the beltway between new hampshire avenue and university boulevard. all of that has cleared. that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. imetraffic. some stories making headlines on this tuesday, a shooting inside a home in silver spring. a map says he found two people inside his home in the 1100 block of good hope drive just before 9:00 last night. he says he knew the woman but didn't know the man. there was some kind of altercation and he shot the man. that person later showed up at a local hospital for treatment. he is listed in serious condition. so far, no charges have been filed. >> today, a judge will sentence former penn state assistant coach jerry sandusky on 45 counts of child sexual abuse. sandusky recently spoke to a student-run radio station from his jail cell. melanie alnwick has more. >> reporter: given the nature of the crime and the number of charges, it is likely that jerry sandusky will be sent to

prison for the rest of his life. according to sandusky's lawyers, the 68-year-old former penn state assistant football coach plans to tell the judge he is innocent and it is all part of setting up an appeal. from famous football coach to hated convict, jerry nods was found guilty in june of abusing 10 boys over 15 years. -- jerry sandusky was found guilty in june of abusing 10 boys over 15 years. many of the victims will testify about how the abuse by sandusky forever altered their lives. jerry sandusky has never admitted guilt. he defended himself yesterday in an interview with a penn state radio station. >> the young man who is a dramatic and veteran acouser started everything. he was joined by a well orchestrated group of others. they won. i wondered what they really won, attention, financial gain

being prestige will all be temporary. before you blame me as others have, look at everything and everybody. >> reporter: in his statement, sandusky continuously refers to his victims only as accusers. he says he will continue to fight for justice and a second chanrosecutors, about six of his victims are expected to speak at today's hearing. defense is laying ground for an appeal saying the speedy trial didn't give them enough time to properly prepare. sandusky's entire statement is posted on our web site at myfoxdc.com. just click on web links. >> thank you. developing this morning across the country, fear grows as the number of cases in the deadly meningitis outbreak continues to rise. the latest number from the cdc show eight people have died with a total number of cases at 105. a total of five cases in maryland. the cdc says it is possible as many as 13,000 people are at risk. this form of meningitis has a

longer incubation period taking up to four week before patients could notice any symptoms. pepco and its union reached tentative contract agreement likely averting a strike. the union rejected the company's previous offer last month. both sides have declined to provide specific details about the new agreement. w agreement. george allen and tim cain squared off in a debate last night. they talked about recent events in libya and illegal immigration. there was also a big focus on the economy, of course, including how to reduce the deficit and create jobs. >> i'm the only governor in modern times who left office with a smaller general fund budget than when i started, $5 billion worth of cuts. george has insofar shown an ability to make any kind of

cuts. statement budget went up 45% in four years and then debt and spending skyrocketed in his time on the united states senate. on the tax side, i do believe we should let the bush tax cuts expire as planned. >> we do need a balance. there needs to be cuts made in federal spending. we need to grow the economy. i think there are a variety of things that ought to be cut and repealed and replaced is obamacare. that will save over $1 trillion. >> reporter: the two former virginia governors have been running neck and neck for 10 years. one of the hottest issues on the ballot this year is question six and it is about same-sex marriage. opinions are strong even among some professional football players. >> coming up next, two mayors from the baltimore ravens with two different messages for voters. we'll be right back.

people in maryland are forming clear opinions on gay marriage club some of the baltimore ravens football players. >> they have a mess am for voters. bob barnard has more. >> reporter: it is the one ballot question here some maryland most voters we've come across seem to know the most about and opinions one way or the other are pretty clear-cut. >> awesome of you to do this. >> reporter: maryland governor martin o'malley has inveforted a great deal of political capital towards legalizing same- sex marriage in the free state, on this night joining brian ayanbadejo at a fundraising party at marylanders for marriage equality. >> it is a matter of equality and treating everybody fairly. it is not a religous issue. it is just about fairness and if you treat one american one way, you have to treat them all the same way. that is why we're here. >> reporter: governor o'malley

and some height showers. not a whole lot. not much sun in my forecast today. i have a lot of clouds though, however and we are going to seat warm-up ahead that i just spoke about. you will see that in my seven- day forecast and some sunny skies as well also in my forecast. in the meantime, temperatures even up to 20 degrees cooler than they should be for the seasonal average. a cool start to your morning. we are at 48 now at national. 46 at dulles. 47degrees this hour at bwi. let's take a look at our fox 5 accu-weather live radar and show you what i'm speaking about in terms of these rain showers. very light in nature. a little bit heavier. south moving off to the northeast. all of this will be out of the way into the course of the morning hours. you won't have to deal with it this afternoon at all. in here, there are also some areas of patchy fog as well. do be aware, visibility certainly reduced.

stations, glenmont, takoma park, georgia avenue and u street. the ads aren't particularly visible. many rides are walked right past them without noticing. those who did stop to read the poster had strong reactions. >> it is absolutely idiotic. it is so fundamentally stupid, i can't even begin to engage with it. >> tots mobilize people to hate one and not the other. >> reporter: the american freedom defense initiative won right to have them hung, the lawyer saying it is protected free speech. >> i do not think that anybody should have the right to call nip a savage but in america, we have freedom of speech. >> reporter: some believe the ads equates muslims with savages. metro went to court to stop the ads from going up after receiving what it called verifiable threats n new york where the posts are have been up for several weeks, a woman was arrested for trying to spray paint over one of them. so far, there hasn't been a

some good news no redskins fans. robert griffin iii says he fields good and does not have any dizziness or headache after suffering a mild concussion on sunday. >> team doctors will monitor griffin and if symptoms don't return, he will be able to practice and play this coming sunday. the injury took place with about six minutes to go in the third quarter against the falcons. i'm sure you remember. griffin got nailed by sean weathererspoon. give inlaid on the turf for a while and got himself up, left the game and did not return. >> initially robert came off the field and he knew the score, he knew the quarter. about two or three minutes later, he went into a little box and he didn't know the quarter so it changed. after that procedure, we take him to the locker room and he goes through a standard test. they compare that to the test when he first come in for his

physical. at that time, they determined if it is a concussion or not. when that test was not the same as the initial test he took, that is when the doctors come up with a concussion. >> his brain now as with anyone is much more susceptible to damage both acute and prolonged from another trauma within the recovery period from a previous trauma. until that recovery is complete, the brain is much more susceptible for both acute and long-term damage. >> if griffin passes his latest test, he will be allowed do some conditioning on the treadmill today. as for sunday, we'll have to wait and see what the doctors say later on in the week. >> we are hoping he is much better. >> let's hope so. >> we still have plenty ahead, weather, traffic and all of our top stories. >> fox 5 morning news continues right now. live look outside right now and this is oxon hill in the oxon hill area. tr
